How to choose between the two:

Washington, D.C. at €350 is the cheaper option and one of the most self-sufficient cities in the US for a first visit. The Smithsonian museums are free, the monuments are walkable, and it's an easy Amtrak ride to Philadelphia, New York, or Baltimore if you want to extend the trip.

Atlanta at €400 is the less obvious choice and often the more interesting one. The BeltLine, the food scene, Piedmont Park, and day trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains make it a genuinely rewarding city for people who want something beyond the standard US itinerary. It's also a major Delta hub for cheap onward domestic connections if you want to add a second US city.

Both fares are Light with carry-on and under-seat bag only. Factor that in if you're packing for more than a long weekend.
