Nearby Cabo San Lucas sits at the southern tip of Baja California where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. It’s most famous for El Arco, the dramatic rock arch at Land’s End that you can only reach by boat, and for being one of the better sport fishing destinations in the world. But it’s more than that: the snorkelling at Santa Maria beach, whale watching season from December through March, and the food scene around San José del Cabo 20 minutes up the road make this a genuinely varied destination rather than just a beach resort.

November through January is actually one of the better windows to visit. November and early December are warm and dry before the holiday pricing spike. January is whale watching season. Grey whales migrate through the Sea of Cortez in enormous numbers from January through March, and boat tours get you closer than almost anywhere else in the world.
